Summary
Performs nuclear medicine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
1. Reviews exam orders/requisitions, reviews corresponding protocol and, if needed, asks questions of superior(s) and prepares for exam.
2. Performs all patient imaging with attention to patient care, quality imaging and efficient management of time. Communicates with the Nuclear Medicine physicians to ensure that all images are satisfactory.
3. Prepares radiopharmaceuticals for use in patient studies. Performs quality control checks of pharmaceuticals.
4. Performs calibration chemical purity checks and percent yields to ensure integrity of solutions and to avoid unnecessary radiation exposure.
5. Follows physician’s orders, determines appropriate radiopharmaceutical and dosage. Consults with physician as needed.
6. Explains procedures to patients. Injects patients and conducts study. Notifies Supervisor of any problems.
7. Observes radiation safety techniques and procedures, including use of protective shielding and handling and disposal of radiopharmaceuticals.
8. Informs supervisor of equipment malfunction and/or need for repair. Documents all testing procedures.
9. Documents all studies performed.
10. Participates in in-services and/or continuing education and the PI Process. Assists in training and supervision of students, interns and trainees and evaluates their performance.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Nuclear Medicine/Radiological Sciences/Radiologic Technology is required or equivalent for non-Saudis required.
Experience Required
Grade 08: Two (2) years of hospital nuclear medicine experience required or successful completion of specialisation training at KFSH for new graduates.
Grade 09: Four (4) years of experience as nuclear medicine technologist at KFSH including 50 CME and at least 4.3 average evaluation for the last 4 years.
Other Requirements(Certificates)
Must be certified as Nuclear Medicine Technologist including one of the following: NMTCB, ARRT, ASCP or CAMRT or equivalent for non-Saudis.
