Patient Position Infant

Immobilize infants arm above the head or use stockinette, ace bandage, tape or sandbags.
Immobilize legs with Ace bandage or tape and sandbags
Center Image receptor to Central Ray
Use gonadal shielding if possible.

Parental Assistance for Infants:

Use only if necessary. Supply with lead apron and gloves, and have parent hold arms above the baby’s head with one hand and legs with other hand, to prevent rotation of the body.

Central Ray:

Newborn to 1 year old – Center Central Ray to 1 inch or 2.5 cm above umbilicus.
Older Child – Center central ray to level of umbilicus.

SID: 40 – 44 inches or 102 to 113 cm

Collimation:

On four sides to abdominal borders

Patient Respiration:

Expose on expiration or when abdomen has least movement. If the patient if crying, time exposures at full expiration.
