Preparation on Abdominal Procedures
Barium Enema |
Radiographic examinations including the abdomen continually require that the entire large intestine be cleaned before the examination so that diagnostic quality radiographs can be achieved. The patient’s colon may be cleaned by one or any combination of the following:
- Limited Diet
- Laxatives
- Enemas
The method used to cleanse the patient’s large intestine usually is selected by the medical facility or clinicians. The patient should be asked about any bowel preparation that may have been done before an abdominal procedure is begun.
